“Racing isn’t just something I do, It’s a part of who I am”
Hi, my name is Katie and I’m a junior dragster bracket racer. I’m 11 years old and I live in Washington. I’m in 6th grade and this year I am being homeschooled by my mom. I licensed at the end of the 2018 season and in 2019, I began my racing career.
I have raced at the following tracks, Renegade Raceway (this is my home track), Bremerton Raceway (where I licensed), Pacific Raceway, Woodburn Dragstrip and Firebird Raceway. I have gone to bracket finals 2 years in a row. I have also been to Autoclub Raceway at Pomona where I got to watch my Dad compete as Division 6 Sportsman Champion in the World Finals!
This year my parents bought me a new car. It is a 2006 McGee. We drove down to California to pick it up where I got to meet Chris McGee! My dad re-painted my car purple and my cousin created the stickers. However, this year I rolled my car with only 2 weeks before bracket finals. I don’t need to go into detail. I’m fine and the damage to the car was minimal. My dad will repair my car and again my cousin will create the graphics. This time I want a butterfly theme. After my crash, when my car was being unloaded, in my eyes, it looked as if someone had crumpled up a piece of paper and then unfolded it. The funny thing is, the girl I was racing red-lit, so I had won that race! My racing “sister” Raylee Higgins offered to let me borrow her old car so that I could finish the season and still go to bracket finals. So, a week after my crash I got in her car and went racing. But, I finished off the season in a borrowed car where I earned my 1st perfect .000 light and I also earned the title of 2020 Renegade Raceway Jr. Thunder Track Champion!
My goals as a drag racer are to win Division 6 Bracket Finals and Western Conference Finals.
When I’m not racing, I really love horseback riding and photography.
I look forward to the upcoming race season and getting back into my car.
