Madelyn Gjerness, age 14, began racing quarter midgets (a scaled-down version of a midget car) in 2015.
She now races micro sprints, which are a smaller version of full sprint cars, running side-mounted 600 cc motorcycle engines developing around 140 hp and are chain driven. They have chassis and bodies styled like those of full-sized sprint cars or midgets.
For the 2022 season, Maddie will be running the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series, as well as some larger national races, in Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Arkansas, Texas, and Nebraska. You'll see her starting off the season in A Class, Outlaw, and Wingless.
